7:00 AM

We get up early to load the gear into the shuttle. Debby and I drive to Williamsport, MD following the shuttle van. We leave the car at the old visitor center. This is where it will stay until the end of our tour. Now in the van we head to Cumberland, MD to pick up four cyclists to bring them with us to Pittsburgh. They will start their tour back to Cumberland.

12:30 PM

Debby and I check in to the Travelers Rest and settle in. We visit with our host Mary Beth, it’s nice to be back here again, I was here last year.

 1:27 PM

We are riding to the Point State Park Fountain, the start of the GAP trail.

We ride over to Bicycle Heaven, a bicycle museum. Ten thousand or more old and rare bicycles.

We are now on the GAP to ride over the Hot Metal Bridge to make our way back to the Travelers Rest.

5:00 PM

The Sly Fox Brewery is our choice for dinner. Great food and excellent beer.

8/30/24 Wheelock, VT

My sister set me up with her massage therapist for a 9 AM appointment. She drove me to the appointment and then up to the town of Wheelock to start today’s ride.

The gravel wavy roads carried us up and down to the Old North Church that is on a section of the VTXT route.

From the church we made our way to Danville for lunch at Bentleys.

Then over to Joe’s Pond Road to connect to County Road to finish the ride. I cleaned my bike and cleaned myself while Deb and Lyn drove to get her car at Wheelock. It was a great riding day.

8/27/24 Local roads

After a nice meal and catching up, it’s been a year since seeing my sister and Lyn, I retire to my room for a night’s sleep. I wake up at 8 AM and eat breakfast. We visit over coffee and get ready to ride. Our first stop will be Bentleys for lunch.

After lunch we ride off to see the sights. I really enjoy riding up here on the Northeast Kingdom roads. The weather is perfect, warm and a feeling of fall is in the air.

8/25/24 to Campobello, NB

Lynn and I wake up at 4 AM and start packing up the campsite to leave at 6 for the ferry to Mainland. We purchase tickets and go across the street to have breakfast at a restaurant. We have an hour to wait for the next ferry to arrive.

The ferry arrives and we board for the ninety minute ride to Mainland. We watch Harbour seals and porpoise swimming alongside the boat.

Back on land we ride over to the stony beach to look for sea glass. Today we found sea glass.

Now we ride to catch the ferry to Deer Island. On Deer Island we ride the many steep hills to the ferry to Campobello. We are early and have a forty five minute wait so we head to the point to sea Old Sow, the whirlpools, but the tide is high so the whirlpools are small and difficult to see.

We head back and board the ferry to Campobello.

Now back to the campsite and set up camp. We will wake up at 5 AM to leave at 6 o’clock for Vermont.

8/24/24 Looking for sea glass

Today we head out to explore the shore around our campground. Last night we noticed a cafe close by so instead of making breakfast we will go out to eat. This little place has very nice food.

With full bellies we ride off to explore. We decide to look for sea glass but the tide is rising and noon is found.

Now back at the campsite we settle in, relax, and prepare for an early start. If we leave by 6 AM we might make the eight o’ clock ferry to Deer Island.

8/23/24 Grand Manan

We started the day by breaking camp and packing up to catch the ferry to Deer Island. So my breakfast was a pop tart.

We landed at Deer Island and began the race to catch the next ferry to MainLand New Brunswick.

The third ferry took us to Grand Manan. This was the largest ferry that also carried loaded tractor trailers, the trip took ninety minutes. From the ferry we had 18km to get to the Anchorage Provincial Park campground. We set up camp as it was getting dark.
